This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Engineer with transformer expertise to join a well-established, family-owned engineering business. Our client are a leading manufacturer and supplier of electrical power distribution equipment, helping customers reduce energy waste, cut carbon emissions, and lower operating costs.
The Role
The Site Engineer will focus primarily on the installation, fitting, wiring, and testing of new distribution and power transformers, including packaged substations. The role also involves warranty investigation and rectification work, alongside routine maintenance activities.
You will be predominantly site-based, with occasional in-house pre-fitting and assembly work. Travel to customer sites across the UK and Europe will be required.

The Role
The Site Engineer will focus primarily on the installation, fitting, wiring, and testing of new distribution and power transformers, including packaged substations. The role also involves warranty investigation and rectification work, alongside routine maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Installation, assembly, wiring and testing of distribution and power transformers and associated packages
- Preparation of work by reviewing assembly instructions, drawings, specifications, images and parts lists
- Assembly of components, ensuring correct fit and secure fastening of parts and subassemblies
- On-site build, commissioning and testing of equipment at third-party locations
- Ensuring all equipment meets the highest quality and safety standards
- Acting as a professional, customer-facing ambassador on site, delivering excellent service under pressure
- Working safely at all times, using initiative in a fast-changing environment
- Reading and interpreting mechanical and schematic drawings
- Using workshop machinery and hand tools relevant to the role
- Collaborating with colleagues to resolve site-based challenges
Essential:
- Proven experience installing and fitting distribution and power transformers and associated packages on site is highly beneficial
- Hands-on experience in a mechanical and/or electrical engineering environment
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and schematic drawings
- Apprentice-trained or qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong troubleshooting skills and excellent attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive and positive approach to customer interaction
- Full transformer testing experience
- Experience working in a continuous improvement environment
- Ability to train and support colleagues to enhance team capability
- Up-to-date Overhead Crane / Slinging & Lifting certification
- FLT licence
- IPAF certification
- Salary negotiable, dependent on experience
