Tyre Performance Engineer

Our Formula E client has an opportunity for a Tyre Performance Engineer to join their team within a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.

About the Role

  • Create, maintain and develop a variety of empirical, thermal and physical tyre models for use in offline and DIL simulations.
  • Develop analytical methods to interpret real tyre data and use this to predict conditions and procedures for optimum tyre performance.
  • Evaluate and optimise tyre utilisation during track tests and race events to ensure maximum overall performance of cars during qualifying and races. This is primarily a factory-based role, however weekend event support in the remote Ops room will be required along with some travel to specific events or tests.
  • Formulation of the pre-event tyre report with recommendations for tyre preparation and usage during race/test events. Contribute towards tyre group post-event reports with appropriate analysis and comment.
  • Contribute towards wider Performance group activities across Race Engineering, Strategy, Controls & Vehicle Science
About you

  • Strong degree in an Engineering or Mathematical subject
  • Tyre modelling experience is desirable. Knowledge of higher fidelity thermal, physical and structural models would be a distinct advantage.
  • Previous tyre engineering experience in FE, WEC, F1 or other professional series would be desirable, although graduates with relevant study experience would also be considered.
  • Proficiency and interest in computational methods and numerical analysis
  • Proficient with programming and analysis languages e.g. Matlab, Python, JavaScipt C++, C, & C#
  • Experience in tyre indoor and outdoor testing (planning, execution, data analysis) would be an advantage.
  • Self-motivated problem solver with a “Can do” attitude and high levels of initiative.
  • Enquiring mindset and creative thinker, with high levels of pride and accuracy in their work.
  • Calm & confident communicator with the ability to communicate complex information clearly, sometimes within a high-pressure / time-sensitive environment.
  • Event support could require working long hours over weekends.
