Project Engineer – Rail Systems

A well-established rail engineering business is seeking a Project Engineer to support the technical delivery of control systems projects across the Rail Systems division.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will support the delivery of rail projects from design through to site activities, testing and commissioning. You will work closely with senior engineers, project teams and clients to ensure technical, safety and quality requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
Core hours: Mon–Thurs 09:00–16:00 | Fri 09:00–12:00

The Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will support the delivery of rail projects from design through to site activities, testing and commissioning. You will work closely with senior engineers, project teams and clients to ensure technical, safety and quality requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Support engineering delivery across rail control systems projects
- Produce specifications, designs, drawings and technical documentation
- Support management of technical interfaces with clients and stakeholders
- Assist with site surveys, installation support, testing and commissioning
- Ensure compliance with QHSE, CDM and rail industry standards
- Review technical specifications and provide technical support to clients and suppliers
- Investigate site issues and support corrective actions and lessons learned
- Skills & Experience
- Rail industry experience within control systems environments
- Exposure to SCADA, BMS, SISS and/or mobile solutions
- Working knowledge of Network Rail, BS, ISO, Safety and CDM standards
- Ability to work independently and support multiple project activities
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Safety Functional / TÜV certification
- Programming or configuration experience (e.g. Silworx, GX Works, Iconics, HMI)
- Coding or scripting exposure (C, Visual Basic, macros)
- Ability to interpret drawings, schematics and system designs
- Competent with MS Office, Visio, CAD and related tools
