Job Description: 
Role Overview:
The Logistics Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and compliant flow of materials and goods across the business. Operating within the aerospace and defence sector, the role demands a strong understanding of industry standards, particularly around traceability, export control, and materials handling. The successful candidate will lead a team of 9 Material Controllers and work closely with third-party shipping agents and courier services to manage inbound and outbound logistics.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coach, and manage the Logistics team, ensuring effective task allocation and workload balance.
  • Oversee Goods In, Stores, and Dispatch operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of materials.
  • Liaise with couriers and third-party shipping agents to coordinate domestic and international shipments, ensuring compliance with aerospace and defence regulations.
  • Ensure efficient material flow throughout the business to meet production and customer delivery schedules.
  • Maintain full traceability of materials in line with aerospace standards and internal quality procedures.
  • Ensure quality processes are adhered too for all goods arriving and NCR procedure is followed.
  • Monitor and report on logistics KPIs, including material receipts, dispatch transactions, kit shortages, and cycle counting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across logistics operations, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions.
  • Ensure all documentation and processes comply with the Business Management System (BMS) and relevant export/import regulations.
  • Support inventory reduction and excess & obsolete (E&O) management strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Purchasing, Customer Services, and Production to resolve material issues and improve service levels.

  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide cross-functional support during staff shortages or peak periods.
  • Undertake training and development as required.
  • Support ad hoc tasks and short-term secondments to other departments when needed.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements within the BMS framework.
 
Authority & Compliance:
  • Authorised to sign off purchase orders within financial guidelines.
  • Not permitted to change BMS processes without formal approval but expected to contribute improvement suggestions.
  • Responsible for adhering to Health & Safety and company policies at all times.
 
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Proven experience in logistics management within aerospace, defence, or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of export control, customs procedures, and courier/freight operations.
  • Hands-on approach with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement
