Our client host’s one of the world's greatest heritage railway experiences and they are looking for a Head of Structures to join their growing team. You will be responsible for the management of inspection, maintenance, conservation, and development of all structural and geo-technical assets across the railway.

Job Description
  • Maintain a register of structural assets and inspection records in line with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Assess structural integrity and prioritise works based on condition, operational need, and safety.
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategy for asset conservation and renewal.
  • Ensure heritage sensitivity in all repair and restoration works, including appropriate materials.
  • Plan, procure, and manage infrastructure projects from conception to delivery.
  • Prepare specifications, method statements, and risk assessments for structural works.
  • Oversee contractors, consultants, and internal teams, ensuring timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, budget, and compliance.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies (e.g., ORR, Historic England) where necessary.
  • Lead a team of engineering staff and volunteers.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and quality across the structures team.
  • Ensure all works comply with relevant legislation (e.g., CDM Regulations, ORR guidance).
  • Contribute to annual safety audits and inspections.
  • Provide technical advice to the senior leadership team on structural matters.

Essential Experience/Skills/Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance and management of railway or civil structures.
  • Demonstrable project management experience, including capital works.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards (e.g., CDM, ORR).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in report writing, budgeting, and use of IT systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
