A fast-growing and well-backed energy solutions business is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to support its expansion across the North of the UK, working with energy-intensive industrial clients on behind-the-meter energy and decarbonisation projects.
This role would suit a commercially astute sales professional with a strong background in energy, renewables, or cleantech, who enjoys consultative selling, complex project development, and building long-term client relationships. The position offers a high level of autonomy, exposure to technically advanced solutions, and the opportunity to join a business at an exciting growth stage.
This is a remote / hybrid role with regular travel to customer sites and occasional visits to a North West office.

Responsibilities:
- Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities with energy-intensive manufacturers across key industrial regions
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of opportunities for behind-the-meter energy solutions including solar PV, battery storage, on-site generation, demand response, and energy efficiency projects
- Engage senior stakeholders through a consultative sales approach, understanding operational, energy, and commercial drivers
- Prepare and present tailored proposals, financial models, and ROI-based business cases
- Lead commercial negotiations, including PPAs, ESAs, and lease-based structures
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial engagement through to contract award and handover to delivery teams
- Work closely with engineering, finance, legal, and project delivery teams to ensure technically and commercially robust solutions
- Maintain accurate CRM records and provide pipeline and forecast reporting
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and policy developments affecting the industrial energy landscape
- Support continuous improvement of sales processes and tools
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in B2B sales or business development within energy, renewables, or cleantech
- Strong understanding of behind-the-meter energy technologies (solar PV, battery storage, CHP, EMS, demand response)
- Experience managing full energy project sales cycles, including feasibility, financial modelling, and contracting
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of energy markets and regulation
- Confident communicator with strong negotiation and presentation skills
- Proven ability to manage complex, long-cycle sales processes involving multiple stakeholders
- Comfortable working autonomously while collaborating with technical and delivery teams
- CRM experience (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar)
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly
- Competitive base salary £65,000–£80,000, dependent on experience
