Owen Daniels Recruitment has engaged with a key client and an established Packaging company providing a wide range of services to the food industry, and high-profile clients. Due to team & project growth an opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join on a permanent basis.

 About The Role

• The position requires delivering an optimal level of service and customer satisfaction through a technical approach to researching and designing food packaging and processing machinery/systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop machinery that meets performance, operational, and cost specifications, including assembly, commissioning, testing, and continuous refinement.
• Establish and maintain excellent relationships with customers, colleagues, suppliers, and internal departments through effective collaboration.
• Continuously identify, implement, monitor, and update processes and practices to ensure consistent adherence to design philosophies.
• Create high-quality designs and drawings while considering all upstream and downstream impacts on the business, internal customers, and end users.
• Manage design projects by ensuring all milestones are achieved according to schedule.
• Provide comprehensive support to both customers and team members.
• Collaborate closely with all departments to facilitate the seamless transition of new designs through documentation, prototyping, timely production, and testing.
• Travel to customer and tna sites to support and develop equipment and solutions.

 
Key Qualifications / Skills

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related engineering discipline).
• At least 3 years of design experience with some level of autonomy in special-purpose machine design or a manufacturing-related field.
• Proficiency in 2D CAD and 3D modeling systems. (Inventor is preferred).
• Experience in sheet metal design is desirable but not essential.
• Familiarity with vibratory machinery is a plus but not required.
• Exposure to the food and packaging industry is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Knowledge of relevant materials and manufacturing processes.
• Expertise in structural design, materials handling, and optimizing designs for food safety.
• Ability to produce documentation suitable for manufacturing and installation personnel.
