We are seeking a creative and technically strong Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly specialised team, a global leader in cutting-edge technology. This is a new permanent role, created due to a team member moving on after three successful years — relatively short within a business where many have 5–10+ years of service.
Based in our modern, fully equipped Glasgow facility, you’ll contribute to the full lifecycle of bespoke products — from concept and CAD modelling through to hands-on prototype build, testing, and production. With recent growth driven by increasing global demand in a specific area of defence and commercial applications, we’re looking for a proactive engineer ready to make an impact.
You’ll work in a small, close-knit multidisciplinary design team, collaborating directly with clients to deliver tailored mechanical solutions. Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Development:
- Produce 3D CAD models (SolidWorks preferred) to meet customer and internal requirements
- Generate manufacturing drawings and clear assembly instructions
- Design custom fixtures and jigs to support manufacturing and testing
- Engage in full product lifecycle — from initial concept through to manufacture and product validation
- Support prototype builds and be hands-on during early-stage product development
- Contribute to continuous product improvement and performance testing
- Work closely with customer engineering teams on technical requirements
- Support production technicians and manufacturing staff with engineering challenges
- Liaise with cross-functional teams across the business
- Degree in Mechanical or Product Design Engineering (mechanically focused)
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a mechanical/product design role
- Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred; other platforms considered)
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles and design for manufacture
- Hands-on approach to building and testing prototypes
- Proven track record of innovative thinking and problem-solving
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to work on cutting-edge projects
- Work on site where everything happens in-house: design, manufacturing, and testing
