A world-renowned manufacturing company is looking for a proactive and detail-driven Assistant Buyer to support their Procurement Team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

About the Role

As an Assistant Buyer, you will assist in sourcing and procuring materials, components, and services to support production, R&D, and operational needs. You’ll help manage supplier relationships, monitor performance, and play a vital role in ensuring supply continuity and cost-effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, you will actively contribute to cost-saving initiatives, delivery tracking, and database management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Raise purchase orders for stock, R&D, and ad hoc requirements.
  • Monitor and expedite deliveries; resolve any supplier delivery issues.
  • Maintain supplier performance data and report on quality, delivery, and pricing.
  • Support stock takes and book in deliveries.
  • Source and qualify alternative suppliers to prevent supply shortages.
  • Maintain and update supplier and component records including pricing and specifications.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Relevant business, commercial, manufacturing, or engineering qualifications are advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of purchasing, negotiation, and cost analysis within a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to engage with suppliers to negotiate price, quality, and delivery terms.
  • Evidence of contributing to cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and components is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with MRP systems, especially SAGE 200 and/or SICON, is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
